Verkabelte Piraten - Pirates on a wire

24. Juni 2020

June 24, 2020

It’s been 16 days since surgery and even though I present myself to you with a pirate eyepatch and a few cables on my head, I’m merely still trying to get my left eye „in order“... The swelling on and inside my temple still makes my sight a little funny and causes me to shut my eye because it feels comfortable.

So I have to keep my other eye shut and force the left one to SEE 👁 - at least for a few hours per day... And the cables are from an EEG of course - or maybe I was reprogrammed and forgot about it.

They tried to make me go to rehab and I said: Yes... - Auf zur Reha...

June 21, 2020

It’s day 13 postOP and I‘ve reached my rehab facility a few days ago - I have to correct myself, it's a recovery facility of course and I don't have any addictions to fight... At my arrival I was re-tested for COVID-19, a necessary security measurement for the whole clinic of course, but it also meant, I had to spent the first 24hrs in quarantine 🧐

So it took til Friday afternoon to get a negative result and the allowance to leave my room and of course NO therapy lessons yet, cause there’s none for the weekend either... But I spend most of yesterday checking the surroundings of the clinic and will tell you more once my actual rehab therapy starts. At the moment I still feel a little insecure about my sight, my left eye suffers from the swelling that seems to also be pressuring the eyeball from inside my head and I have difficulties opening the eye cause once I do, I see double pics - and that makes walking feel a little uncomfortable but I still do of course and just take it slower than usual.

Narbenschau - Scar(cely) visible

17.06.2020

9 Tage post OP

24 Tage post OP

ca. 8 Wochen post OP

June 17, 2020
Day 9 postOP and today the remaining stitches were removed - it takes a certain camera angle to be able to see the suture on my forehead. I was already released from hospital three days ago and met a few colleagues today - those who didn’t know I‘ve had surgery simply said hello without any strange looks at my face and those who were in the loop actually gave me stranger looks because they had been sure, I‘d have a different appearance if not to say a sicker one 😂
I also got the lab results from the tumor material and even though I had not been afraid of them anyway, they were as good as I expected them to be: benign, not-invasive and most probably not to reproduce anytime soon!!! 👏🏻
Right now I’m still having problems with my sight, especially from the left eye which is caused by the swelling inside my head that puts pressure on the eye socket (at least that’s the „mechanical“ explanation put together by the surgeons and me...) - so tomorrow I’ll start for a rehab for three weeks!
I‘ll keep you posted!

Haare waschen ist... - Washing my hair

10.06.2020

Day 3 post-op and yes, now I dare to give you a picture of my whole face again. The swelling is turning down slowly but steadily, my eye-sight is not fully back cause my left eye still sees corners where the right eye won’t, but we‘re getting there!! And my surgeon said, they didn’t touch the eye nerve at all, so... Today‘s a holiday here in Northrhine-Westfalia and some other German states, Corpus Christi, and though I do not intend to make fun of the church in any way, it’s my personal „corpus of Christi(na) day“ too 😅 I was allowed to take a shower AND wash my hair. How amazingly good that felt is probably hard to understand for you guys out there, but for me it felt like success!! Only a little headache now from the bending down when drying my legs, but I took my meds and wait for breakfast now. Wishing you all a good day 😘

Geschafft - done

09.06.2020

June 9, 2020

First day post-op... I’m already able to stand up again, take a little walk round the patients floor and obviously write a message to you. Only bad thing is my looks - since part of my skin had to be pressed over my forehead and the temples it has swollen a lot and makes me look as if I‘d been in a proper fist fight. Well, you haven’t seen the others... But also I will NOT post a picture of my face here as long as it’s as bad as this.

Yet, I‘m in a good mood, the headache is bearable so far and my left side will eventually look better again. And the doctor said the meningioma was completely removed!!
